This grant round is open to organizations whose work aligns with our new focus areas and are not current Healthy People Healthy Places grantees. The webinar will be an opportunity to meet Sewall Foundation staff and get more detailed information and guidance for your application. It will also provide space for you to connect with others working to advance the well-being of communities and the environment in one of the Healthy People Healthy Places focus areas: Food Systems, the Katahdin region, Lewiston-Auburn, Wabanaki Communities and Tribal Governments, and Washington County. Please note, for this grant opportunity, our Keystone and Nature-Based Education focus areas are by invitation only.
If you have questions or problems with the registration link, please contact Jonah Fertig-Burd.
Please feel free to share this information if you know of an organization or effort that you believe would be a good fit for this funding opportunity.
HEALTHY PEOPLE HEALTHY PLACES GRANT OPPORTUNITY
Deadline: Applications are due June 15th, 2021 by 5pm.
For general information about the 2021 Healthy People Healthy Places grant opportunity, including requirements and review priorities, please visit the Healthy People Healthy Places Grants page of our website.
Starting the Application Process
We are committed to respecting everyone’s time and effort and hope to have high success rates for our grants. In order to increase potential alignment and eligibility, we ask that you first contact the staff lead (listed below) for the focus area with which you see your work aligning. A brief conversation (or email exchange) before beginning the application process does not commit you to applying or imply assurance of funding. But we hope it will increase alignment, decrease declination rates and build deeper knowledge of the organizations and work happening in this focus area. After this conversation or email exchange, the focus area staff lead will send you a link to the online application form.
The 2021 Healthy People Healthy Places Grants Application Guide provides instructions, guidance and review considerations on applying for this grant round. The guide also includes Focus Area descriptions, priorities and funding amounts available for each Focus Area. Please review the guide prior to deciding to apply.

General Eligibility
This grant round is for organizations and efforts whose work aligns with one of our focus areas and are not current Healthy People Healthy Places grantees. Work that was supported in 2020 through Sewall’s Twin Pandemics or Rapid Response grants – but not a Healthy People Healthy Places grant in March 2020 – may be eligible to apply.
Background
Since 2015, Healthy People Healthy Places grants have supported work throughout Maine to improve the well-being of people and the environment. For the past two years, Sewall has been developing a clearer and narrower focus for Healthy People Healthy Places, and we have now identified seven focus areas where our board has approved a longer-term commitment. Community-based work in the Katahdin Region, Lewiston-Auburn, Washington County, and Wabanaki Communities and Tribal Governments, will be complemented by statewide efforts in Food Systems and Nature-Based Education, as well as statewide policy, advocacy, and communications work in the Keystone focus area.
